Pre-Conference Shabbaton
January 11 to 12th 2013
Conference Program
Each annual OHALAH conference includes davenen, plenary sessions on topics of interest to Jewish clergy; teachings, workshops and discussions held in small groups; delicious kosher meals; time to get to know one another, schmooze with friends and share praxis and chevraschaft; and a shuk.
Shabbaton
The conference is preceded by a Shabbaton where worship and other sessions are led by clergy students.
Concert or Ordination
Saturday evening every third year (including 2012) includes the ordination of those who have completed the ALEPH Hashpaah Program and Spiritual Director. During alternate years, we will hold a Saturday evening concert open to the public.
Annual Ordination
Sunday afternoon every year includes the ordination of rabbis, cantors and rabbinic pastors by the ALEPH Ordination Program.
Who May Attend
The OHALAH conference is open to rabbis and cantors across the streams of the Jewish people who are interested in the renewal of Judaism. The conference is also open to rabbinic pastors and qualified chaplains regardless of whether they are members of the RPA. In addition, the conference is open to students in good standing who are studying to become rabbis, cantors, rabbinic pastors or chaplains.
Spouses
Clergy and students who are authorized to attend the conference may be accompanied by their spouses. Some years, there is a breakout group for spouses. All years, spouses are welcome to attend davenen and nearly all–or nearly all–conference plenary and small group sessions. Everyone must apply to attend the conference.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available to clergy and clergy students who are accepted to attend the conference by the first or second financial aid deadline described in the conference application.
Open to the Public
Friday evening worship, Saturday evening Hashpaah Ordination, Sunday Clergy Ordination and the Shuk (bazaar) are free and open to the public. The Saturday evening concert held in alternate years is open to the public, but there is a cost for admission.
